Key statement
Helsinki Contemporary focuses on long-term collaborations with emerging and more established artists who take a physical, in-depth approach to their work. Our artistic profile is not restricted to any particular media, but prioritizes visual art of current interest that conducts a dialogue with both the surrounding society and the space in which it is presented.
In our collaborations with artists, we accentuate curatorial commitment and the content of the art. We are establishing an expanding international presence through participation in fairs (eg. Market, CHART, ARCOMadrid, VOLTA), collaborations and publishing, while also seeking to cooperate actively with other art institutions in Finland and abroad.
We create unique opportunities for our visitors and clients to experience the key contemporary works of art – and especially for them to do so on site, together with other people. In addition to high-end exhibitions, artists’ talks and debates also form a vital part of our programme. The Gallery is further committed to establishing a multi-faceted digital presence that allows visitors to discover art virtually, from a distance.
Since 2011, Helsinki Contemporary has carried on the successful work begun by Gallery Kalhama & Piippo Contemporary in 2007.
