Helsinki Contemporary appoints Laura Köönikkä as Gallerist

Curator, MA Laura Köönikkä will start as the gallery director of Helsinki Contemporary. Located at Bulevardi 10 Helsinki Contemporary (former Gallery Kalhama & Piippo Contemporary) renewed it's name and profile last autumn, changes in which Laura Köönikkä also played an active role as the curator of the gallery.
"Helsinki Contemporary has an active, modernized and international role in the field of Finnish visual arts. We will be focusing on developing our activities and strengthening our position – as the key elements: art content and location are already in a great shape." says Laura Köönikkä.
Laura Köönikkä has worked as the artistic director of FRAME – Finnish Fund for Art Exchange 2010–2011. She was the curator of the Finnish pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2011. Before moving to Helsinki she was the Chief curator of Tampere Art Museum and TR1 Kunsthalle and curator at the Pori Art Museum.
MA Mikaela Lostedt who has worked as acting manager will continue her previous duties as gallery manager.
