Fantastical creatures from myths and legends are often hybrids of different animals and plants, and, not infrequently, a mix of humans and animals. Representations of hybrid creatures remain an inexhaustible source of inspiration for artists around the world.
HYBRIDEN tells the genesis of these wondrous creatures and how their significance has evolved. The exhibition brings together contemporary art, art history and ethnographic artefacts. The exhibition includes works from artists including David Altmejd, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Max Ernst, Francisco Goya, Koen Van Mechelen and Jon Rafman.
Opening on June 17 at wilhelmina’s Art Gallery on the island of Hydra in Greece, Emma Ainala presents new works in the international group show titled “Magic Mirror. "Magic Mirror" will be on view 17.6.-21.7.2024.
The exhibition, curated by Wilhelmina von Blumenthal and artist Irini Karayannopoulou, presents works by 33 artists around the world.
The exhibiting artists all explore mirrors and their different uses, and users, through painting, sculpture, film and photography.
