Nicky Hirst
Nicky Hirst (b. 1963, Nottingham) is an English sculptor and installation artist based in London, who is known for her subtle and elegant work employing a variety of media, including drawing, sculpture, etched glass, collage, printed text and photography. Hirst's art is perhaps best described as an exploration of serendipity that can occur in unintended and unexpected places.
She studied BA Fine Art at Maidstone College of Art and MA Art and Architecture at KIAD, Canterbury. Hirst has pursued a parallel practice within her own studio and working collaboratively with architects. Public art commissions include the Biochemistry Building for the University of Oxford (2008); Bulgari Hotel in Knightsbridge (2012); The Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter (2011); Passmores Secondary School, Essex (2012); New Pharmacy Manufacturing Facility, Guy’s Hospital, London, UK (2011); and Oxford Eye Hospital (2011). She has contributed sculptures, drawings, collages and installations to many group and solo exhibitions in galleries around the UK. Her work is held in public and private collections including the Saatchi Collection; Clifford Chance Collection; Penguin Books; Arthur Andersen & Co.; Arts Council Collection; Sheffield City Art Galleries; Bradford Metropolitan Council; BUPA; Doncaster Borough Council; Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Council; and Huddersfield Art Gallery.
