Colin Booth

Colin Booth (b. Gateshead) is a British painter and sculptor using objects and text to research and develop ideas. After working for some 20 years as a freelance journalist and art critic after studying fine art, he resumed painting in 1993. He is interested in the surface complexities of light, colour, texture and reflection. In his artistic practice he uses neglected or once-functioning objects and gives them a new life in a different context, shifting the perception of their meaning or value. His work has a reference to early modernism and the built environment. Geometry and different repeated patterns are apparent in his works, even though nothing is absolutely symmetrical. His art could be called the art of the incidental. He has exhibited widely in the UK and made a commission for Victoria & Albert Museum of Childhood, London. He exhibited in Helsinki at Galleria Uusitalo in 2003.
